Robotics embraces aspects of science, engineering, and modern technologies but also is multidisciplinary and has a direct impact on people’s lives. The use of robots is expanding and the possibilities are endless… That’s why in our Lab we like Robots! We study – design – build – and test Robots.
The UCY Robotics Lab is a research laboratory within the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (MME) at the University of Cyprus (UCY). It is situated in the Main (Old) University Campus within a natural forest park near the center of Nicosia, the capital city of Cyprus. Activity focuses on the dynamic analysis, control, design and development of robotic systems. Research includes both theoretical as well as experimental investigations and concerns various practical applications of industrial and service robotics. The focus is both on robotic manipulation and autonomous mobile robots. It extends to various applications of robotics in industrial production, supply chain management, medical robotics, telerobotics and telemedicine, nursing robotics, elderly care and assisted living, and reconfigurable/ adaptive mechanisms with applications in architectural buildings.
Equipment in the UCY Robotics Lab includes research and industrial robotic manipulators, mobile robotic platforms, as well as general equipment used for the design, development and testing of robot prototypes. Facilities and technical support within the MME Department are available, including access to a fully-equipped machine shop and electronics workshop. An extensive network of local and international collaborators is a basis for working on multidisciplinary projects including applied topics with industrial partners.
Mission
Our goal at the UCY Robotics Lab is to better understand science and engineering, explore new possibilities in Robotics and its enabling technologies, and use it towards a better World. For this, we study robots and their applications, design robots, prototype and test them.
The future is Robotic!
